Vernissage of the exhibit La Subversion des Images
Today was the opening of the exhibition LA SUBVERSION DES IMAGES at Le Centre Pompidou
Just another exposition on surrealism one can think, but here the approach is different in that it explores the photographic and cinematographic production of the movement.
The scenography is doing from an educational point pf view. Fortunately the pieces shown are numerous and not very big. This also renders the exposition difficult to tackle. The curators have decided to concentrate in a short period of the movement-from 1920 to 1930- but to show a great amount of varied styles.
Wheather you are a fan or not of this movement, it is interesting to see how everything that fascinated the artistic scene of the time has not evolved much. The photography had an imprint of the time. It is difficult to find an anchor to video art. What will be the new terrain for creation? As you can see this exposition poses plenty of questions. It’s not the goal of surrealist movement:
Arthur Rimbaud once said’ the surrealist would like to change life » but they understood in order to change the way of being they also had to change the way of seeing. Mathieu Forestier
