What did you expect? Not this
I found out this week that this strange commercial has not made its debut in North America. That might be due to the fact that the add was intended for the French market.
Each time I view it I wonder Why? Is it set in India because the most famous Schweppes flavour is Indian Tonic Water -which dropped the Indian when the colonial era died. Is it because there will be a focus in luring new costumers from the emerging markets? With India being part of BRIC? Is it because they are trying to ride on the renewed interest in all things Indian due to Slumdog millionaire? Particularly in France.
Not sure, but this is one of the strangest commercials I have ever seen. There is something lost in translation here.
The commercial was produced by Ridley Scott, directed by the Oscar-nominated Shekhar Kapur, string Nicole Kidman, Slumdog Millionaire’s Rubina Al, and famous Bollywood star Arjun Rampal; the ad was filmed at the Lake Palace in Udaipur, India.
