Pantone x Gap

Remember our post on Pantone’s announcement for colour of the year: Mimosa (14-0848). Following succesful retail collaborations with Uniqlo, Pantone has teamed up with Gap with a pop-up store to open on February 8th. Optimistic merchandise will be available available then.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF POP-UP STORES
If one could try to trace its history we could probably credit the Guerilla stores by Comme des Garçons in Berlin in 2004, The stores’ aim was to only be open for one year and to spend a minimal amount of money on the interiors. Interestingly enough about a decade ago you it was easy to rent store fronts in East Berlin for gallery shows or parties due to dismal quantities of empty real estate.
Now days, Pop-Up stores have become popular during temporary renovations, like the ColettexGap pop-up in NYC during Colette’s renovation in Paris this part summer. To commemorate famous products, like Reebok Pop-up for the 20th anniversary of the Pump, or to create hype on Special Edition products, like Pantone x Gap.
In China the concept is being used creatively to promote small, local designers.
