The bourgeoisie make a stellar return this season. Blame it on the quest for security but trend driven pieces become a bit becomes démodé when the economy is going through bad times. The the ever futurist Nicolas Ghesquière chose to move to the historic Hôtel de Crillon for his show presenting a very Parisian, and luxurious collection. Even Miu Miu took a very grown up turn this season, as put by Suzy Menkes of the IHT:

WIth instability comes the quest for stability as well as quality. Is it a wonder then that Hermès has forecast if not profits at least steady sales for 2009? Some will spend on classics and look classic, trying to discreetly reinforce the fact that their economy has not been affected. The key here is “discretely”; the era of bling bling is definitely gone.

On that note, the The Costes family opened recently a new restaurant in the right bank called La Société. A name with more bourgeois aspirations than that is not possible.
