The future business of Topshop
OCTOBER 26, 2009
Profits soar, first Paris store, and the Entertainment Business it will be a part of.

Recently launched NYC Topshop store.

Sir Phillip Green, Kate Moss, and Simon Cowell.
Just this weekend Sir Phillip Green’s Arcadia group-Topshop’s parent company- announced 13% rise in pre-tax profits, despite the recession. Considering that the UK was very hard hit with the economic downturn is no small feat to be making a profit in what Mr Green himself calls “one of the most challenging retail landscapes I have seen”. On the same day he took the opportunity to announce Topshop’s further expansion across the English channel to Paris and Milan; as well as the development of stores in China which has been in the works for a while.
The more interesting aspect of the announcements was the mention of Mr Green’s secretive joint venture with Idol creator Simon Cowell which is to rival the Disney company. The project will also include the participation of Kate Moss. Some shuffling in his board of directors pointed to a possible need of more time to work on his entertainment business project which they hope to unveil before the year end. The savvy retailer Sir Phillip Green obviously sees the incredible potential on the future of something that has been developing for a while: Fashion as an Entertainment Conglomerate. LM
