Trend: Mass and Class
One cannot help notice the importance of fashion collaborations these days; weather it is art and commerce like the recently announced Zaha Hadid and Lacoste collection, or between major mass retailers and high-end designers like the upcoming H&M and Comme des Garçons collection (November 13th). The benefits are excellent from a financial and exposure standpoint for both parties; designer clothes mostly known to die-hard fashion fans sold at affordable prices at mass retail stores create recognition for their brands and the retailer gains fashion credibility and hype. Never mind the financial benefits, the Target Go international which focuses on emerging designers, has made more than $100 million in annual sales.
Target announced yesterday the launch of a new initiative, a Designer Collaborations with established designers; their first guest being Alexander McQueen. His collection will be inspired by his secondary line McQ. Interestingly future collaboration will be inspired from a muse, collaborative partner or creative element. Note that the “muse” seem to be getting lots of prominence these days.
The line will be available in limited quantities -like H&M doe sit- in March.
As a last note, keep in mind that in this economic landscape the consumer also benefits as they can get designer clothes at prices that are reasonable. A designer name+affordable prices= an incentive to shop.
In other collaboration news Uniqlo launched today their latest installment of their Uniqlo Meets. It’s a strange one…but go see for yourself.
