Women and a girl in luxury
Time magazine has published a profile of 12 women driving some of the luxury business at the moment; there is a number of well known names like Stella McCartney and L’Wren Scott, but a truly interesting profile was on 16 year old Russian designer Kira Plastinina. Her line, named after herself, has become a success in Russia by filling a gap in the market: affordable fashion for the 15-to-25-year-old set. Financed by her father an entrepeneur on the dairy and juice market, Sergei Plastinina notes that what counts in the current fashion scene is buzz.
The only thing I wonder is why is a brand of clothes geared towards younger girls with Paris Hilton as an inspiration categorized in the luxury market? Maybe the luxury comes from being 16 and having a fashion empire in the making.
