Paris - Andy Warhol TV

Warhol TV
La Maison Rouge
Until May 3rd.
There is a big Andy Warhol exhibition opening in Paris on March 18th at the Grand Palais, as a good preamble there is now a Warhol TV exhibit at the Maison Rouge. The exhibit shows a a variety of his different TV works. I found the Andy Warhol TV, shown on Manhattan cable and Warhol’s Fifteen produced by MTV-based on his famous quote on celebrity- the most interesting. Warhol’s selection of artist, fashion people, and musicians that he chose to feature; they were relevant then, as they are now, special because the shows are a great testimony of the 80’s scene, never mind that the editing and sequence of the show was done in a complete free-style. In the photo above you can see a shot of David Hockney who is talking about style and how old people look good in everything. And a very young Cindy Sherman talking about her photography, as well as some stills of Warhol. I am sure that if Warhol was alive today he would be exploiting the Internet. Imagine: The Warhol Blog, Warhol Twitter… Warhol’s Facebook! He was obsessed with TV so much so that he was a guest on The Love Boat. More over Warhol did not mind to profit from his image appearing on commercials, like the one below or for Coca-Cola. It goes to show yet again what a futurist Warhol was. He was more preoccupied with art & commerce more so that with creativity for the sake of creativity.
From a fashion perspective, it is timely for Pepe Jeans to have the Warhol collection in the European maerket, this from a very first degree perspective. More interestingly, If we were to speak about Andy’s personal style, he was rather timeless. Watching a clip of him with Jean Michel Basquiat I noticed he was very New Balance shoes, the “cool” guy shoe of choice. And which other famous maven wears New Balance shoes now? “Before I was shot, I always thought that I was more half-there than all-there - I always suspected that I was watching TV instead of living life. Right when I was being shot and ever since, I knew that I was watching television”.
